Meditation

I noticed many times when mentioning the word ‘meditation’ that the person I talked to either tried to change the subject, acted like it was an alien word or, after a brief conversation, said it wasn’t something for them.

To be fair, when I first started meditating, I had no idea what to do and I am not sure I knew exactly why I was meditating. I was looking for the unconditional love and for ways to be less angry and more patient, but I didn’t understand that what I was looking for was in me. I didn’t know that meditation was really a sacred time for me when I could sit down, calm down ego and all the racing thoughts, forget about who I was; my body, environment, time...basically this reality and through this process I could connect to the Truth, the unconditional love that is in each and every one of us. I had no idea that from that place I could start creating and changing my life here on Earth.

Understanding both what a meditation is and the reasons behind it are extremely important in starting and then persevering with daily meditation. I have spoken to many people who tried to meditate a few times but decided that it didn’t work for them and gave up. Meditation is like everything else – in order to be good at it, you need to work on it, you need to commit time and effort to persevere and you need to be present. Trying to meditate while you work or are doing chores isn’t really going to bring you the desired effects. If you want to connect to the Truth, you need to be present with it, you need to appreciate and respect yourself, the process and the love in you. The more you enjoy the meditation time and the more you believe or rather know and feel that there is more to you than what you can see, the better the experience is going to be and the quicker you will connect to your Truth. The more you expect certain things to happen and the more frustrated and impatient you become, the further you are going to get from the Truth.

It is very important to establish what it is you want to achieve in your meditation. Is it connecting to the Truth, getting a greater understanding of who you and others really are, feeling the love on a deeper level, finding out what is important to you and what kind of a person you want to be, changing something in your life or creating something new? Whatever it is that you want to achieve, you have to leave ego aside, there can be no fear or any feelings that come from that place if you want to connect to your Truth. Ego and fear are opposite of Truth and love.

When I do my meditation, I start the day with remembering who I really am and thanking the Truth in me and its love, guidance and protection, for my loved ones and for my life. Gratitude and love help me connect to the Truth the quickest. I bless everyone in my life and wish them all the best. Afterwards I do one of Dr Joe Dispenza’s guided meditations on love, as love, joy and peace are the most important things that I strive for in my every-day life.

There are many ways in which you can meditate such as on your own, listening to relaxing music or guided meditation. Whatever you choose is fine, but if one thing doesn’t feel right, even if others find it helpful, please do not get discouraged and give up, but simply try something else.

Meditation is there to help you achieve your goal, to practice who you want to be, what you want your life to be like, to be more loving, patient, grateful, healthy, rich, kind and so on, but being that person for the next 22-23 hours of your day is what it is all really about. You can have a wonderful meditation session, feel love for yourself and everyone else, but it won’t matter that much if an hour later you complain, blame, criticize and get angry.

Please remember that working on yourself is a life-long process. Always try to be patient and loving towards yourself, at times when you do well and at times when you fall.

Ultimately, it all comes down to you and the choices you make - it is your life and you are the creator of it 💜
